Music Icons And Their Place In Music History

After I had owned my very first cheap electric guitar for about 6 months I thought about changing the strings and as I had only been cleaning it with a damp cloth (without using any specific cleaning product) I thought it was be a good time to do it properly. OK, I know I should have done it before, but I was too busy learning! So, after removing the strings, I watched a video on the net about how to clean a guitar.

When last we saw photos of Zachary Jackson Levon — the only-begotten son of Elton John and David Furnish — out and about in public, he was chillin’ with his Papa David on a beach in Hawaii. Today we get to see new photos of little dude out and about here in NYC chillin’ with his nanny in a park. As you can see from the photos below, Zachary was feelin’ real tired on his walk with his nanny … so, soooo tired.

Look at those cheeks!!! So adorable. We have been enjoying a plethora of adorable baby photos here on the blog lately … but with the celebrity baby boom that is going on, I guess it’s to be expected. These photos of Zachary are just so cute … how could I not share them? Don’t you just want to pinch those chubby little cheeks? This little guy is a doll, Elton and David are very lucky to have such a beautiful boy as their son :)

Is George Jones the Best Country Singer Ever?

Rockabilly music spanned a surprisingly wide range of styles. Some acts were more country and others more blues. Some were characteristically wild while others were a bit more polished. So which acts really define the genre? Of all the acts that made rockabilly music throughout the mid to late 1950s, there are a few that really have to be considered mandatory listening for fans of rockabilly music.

Arts and Entertainment from EzineArticles.com

Traditionally, gymnasts, acrobats, circus performers and dancers wear the unitard. It is a one-piece garment that is basically a combination between a leotard and tights. The unitard covers all of a person's body, but does not restrict movement in anyway. Lycra is blended with either cotton or polyester to create a stretchable fabric. Now we know what unitards are, lets take a look at some famous pop culture icons that have worn them.

Survivor: Redemption Island, Episode 9 Recap

Episode 9 of Survivor: Redemption Island begins on Night 21 at the unholy island where Matt has been exiled to once again. Boston Rob Mariano played the perfect Godfather role and blindsided Matt, who knows he was naive to trust Rob. Is God using Matt’s stupidity for some higher purpose? That is the question on Matt’s mind. If you can call it a mind! Day 22 at Camp Murlonio, Spanish for ‘stupid sucker-fish’ according to Rob. David thinks Rob played a genius move last night and compliments him. The rest of the Zappers (former Zapatera Tribe members) think Rob is cold-blooded and ruthless. Ralph tries to seek a crack in the Ometepe Tribe (Omies) alliance by telling Ashley that if she is in the Final Three, he will vote for her to win. Natalie joins them and hears this offer. One for certain is that Rob is having more fun this season than last time. During the previous Survivor All-Star round, Rob had been down, missing his wife Amber, who was pregnant. Is Rob on vacation from 3am feedings this season? Rob holds court and tells his alliance to always remain in pairs, not to fall for any Zapper tricks. [...]

Play Blues Guitar: Important Aspects of Learning Blues Guitar

Since the dissolution of The Beatles in 1970, Paul McCartney has gone on to release over 40 or so albums either under his name alone, under various pseudonyms or with his band Wings. It would have been nigh on impossible for any of the solo Beatles to come close to the unprecedented quality and success of the band, but all in their own ways made significant contributions to the pop canon, none more so than Paul.

Collecting Punk Memorabilia

Life would be utterly boring without music, and music would be impossible without the right instruments and equipment. Music is so incorporated in people's lives that it determines the mood and attitude of a person towards life. History suggests that songs have actually changed lives of some people and in rare occasions the belief of a nation.

Last night David and I hung out with a group of friends last night that included Cara — who we hadn’t hung out with in ages — and Shane & Jordan, who we always make sure to spend time with when we’re in the city. We convened for dinner at The Smith in the East Village and then made our way to Splash Bar for Musical Monday. We had a blast, primarily because we were in such great company.

Cara is my girl who I’ve known for years but we realized that it had been FAR too long since we hung out together here in the city. Last night was our chance to remedy the fact that we hadn’t seen one another in a while and we picked up as if no time had passed. Shane is one of David’s BFFs so we always make sure to spend time with him here in the city … and randomly, we always run into Jordan here in NYC when we happen to be here. I have to tell you, I am a very lucky person. I know the coolest people in the world and I feel so blessed to count them as friends. That Cara and I can pick up after a few years as if no time has passed is just so wonderful. And there are few people in the world that make me as happy as Jordan does. We ate, we drank and were very merry here last night so … it was a very good night.

Tonight, David and I will be seeing Catch Me If You Can on Broadway. Catch Me stars Kerry Butler, who I met when she was starring in Xanadu and LOVED in Rock of Ages. I am very excited to see her in this new show. It’s supposed to be rainy tonight but I don’t think anything can dampen my spirits today. Happy Tuesday, y’all!!

Love Triangle Interview With Wendy Williams!

Wendy Williams is one heck of a busy lady and her schedule just got busier with the addition of the new GSN game show Love Triangle. The show premiered last week and is getting great buzz but then again pretty much everything Wendy does generates buzz. I recently had the opportunity to participate in a Q&A interview with the one and only Wendy Williams. She dished about her new show, her busy life and her recent stint on Dancing With The Stars. Williams is a talker that is for sure which made the interview one of the most enjoyable ones I have ever done. Obviously a big part of what Wendy shared had to do with her new show Love Triangle, which she and her husband just so happen to executive produce. The schedule for taping the show fit into her talk show schedule nicely which she admitted is the first question she asked before taking on the project. That plus the fact that she loves game shows made her decision to take the job an easy one. Love Triangle taped 32 episodes in about four weekends leaving her free to film her talk show during the week. What was [...]

Movie Review: Scream 4′

At last … after many years of hoping, praying, talking … then planning and waiting … Scream 4 finally opened in theaters here in the US yesterday. It seems like a lifetime ago that we first heard that the Scream film franchise was being rebooted with a new sequel and an ice age since the [...]

Yesterday was a really fun day for David and me. After an early showing of Scream 4 (review forthcoming), we made our way to the Gibson Amphitheater to see Janet Jackson LIVE in concert on the second night of her LA stop of her Number Ones Greatest Hits Tour. David had seen Janet twice before in concert … last night was my first … and it was AMAZINGLY fun!

Our show was no nonsense, no frills … just HIT song after HIT song for about 2 hours. The show was pretty much one big medley. In order for Janet to perform all of her hit songs — and I mean ALL of them — she had to perform them in medley format. The show started with a medley of upbeat dance songs, then cooled down with a medley of ballads before going back into more killer dance tracks. Even Janet‘s onstage dress was bare bones … jeans, a tank top and combat boots … that’s all. To be honest, I was a bit bummed that the show wasn’t a big production. I’ve seen photos from her Rhythm Nation and Velvet Rope tours and she really knows how to put on a show. This tour, tho, is all about the songs … her massive collection of hits. She did not disappoint. I was in HEAVEN singing and dancing along to all of her songs. I actually remembered and busted out the dance breakdown parts to both Miss You Much and If right there in the aisles. I had no shame, it was a blast! The show was so fun … it was an honor to see Janet live in concert :)

Jessica Simpson Shows Off Her Multiple Personalities On Twitter

Jessica Simpson, who appeared in a sharing mood yesterday, posted a fun photo on her official Twitter profile that showed off her many moods and personalities. At last … after many years of hoping, praying, talking … then planning and waiting … Scream 4 finally opened in theaters here in the US yesterday. It seems like a lifetime ago that we first heard that the Scream film franchise was being rebooted with a new sequel and an ice age since the last film was released in theaters … but Scream 4 is out. I was able to see the film at a showing yesterday and I am very happy to reveal that I LOVED it entirely and believe it to be a very worthy sequel to the amazing Scream horror franchise.

I was very happy to see that Scream 4 manages to update the “horror movie rules” formula while still staying true to the spirit that we all know and love from the first 3 Scream films. The opening kill scene is just BRILLIANT. It’s so meta that I can’t even properly describe what happens … you’ll have to see it for yourselves. The movie is funny AND bloody. It seemed to be the bloodiest Scream movie yet … which is right on par with the way the sequels should be (tho I have to give the edge of the funniest Scream film to Scream 3, primarily because of Parker Posey‘s brilliant performance … and because of Courteney Cox‘s outrageously severe bangs). There is a nice dichotomy between the original cast and the new generation and the story twists and turns so much that you really do not know who the killer is (or killers are) until the body count whittles down the suspects … and even then, you really can’t be sure until that ghostface mask comes off. Be warned … NO ONE is safe in this film. If you have a fave character — either old or new — you better be prepared to see them skewered cuz in this film, anyone can die at any time. If I have one complaint about the film, it would be how long the ending dragged on. As you Scream fans should know, the killer always comes back for one last scare … but this time, that come back is quite long and drawn out. BUT, the movie is so good you kinda don’t want it to end so … more movie means more scares. I really had no idea how they were going to reboot the Scream franchise and make it both new AND true to the original films which came out a decade ago. I was very pleased to see that Scream 4 is a fun reboot of the franchise … and I’m DYING to see where the story will go next in Scream 5 … and Scream 6? Do yourselves a favor, go see Scream 4. If you love the original films, I think you’ll really get a kick out of and will enjoy this film a lot.

History of the Oscar Statuette

The Video Music Awards, also known as the VMAs, have been presented by the MTV network which has also broadcast the ceremony live each year, since 1984. They began as an alternative to the Grammy's intending to target the younger demographic of MTV viewers and focus its celebration and recognition more on pop culture contributions and achievements appealing to younger adults rather than artistic merit in the grand scheme of the music industry as appealed to industry professionals.

Why Many Teenagers Struggle to Read Music and What You Can Do About It

Very few bands in the last 20 years have managed to do what the Avett Brothers have done as far as touring, global cult-like following and nearly ubiquitous critical acclaim, and never have a top 40 hit. The Avett Brother's are a folk-rock-punk-bluegrass-roots-avant garde-hard to pin down band hailing from the hills of Concord, North Carolina.

Why Wedding Music Bands Make the Big Day Go With a Bang

You're planning your wedding and trying to decide between hiring a DJ or a wedding band. There are a few distinct differences and it's important to weigh the options when deciding. A DJ stands behind his equipment and sometimes offers short announcements but as for kicking the party in gear, there's nothing like hiring a band for your wedding.
